Electronic Technologist (Design Support)


 

The Nanometrics Sensor Group designs seismometers for earthquake monitoring.  These precision instruments combine advanced electronic and mechanical technology, and integrate with worldwide data collection and analysis networks. In this entry-level role your main responsibility will be prototyping and verification test of new seismometer designs. You will also participate in documentation of designs for manufacture, and ongoing support for products in manufacturing and customer use. As you mature in the role there will be the potential to contribute to seismometer technology and improve company processes.

Duties

  • Assemble, test and debug prototype circuit cards, seismometers, and associated networks and test facilities

  • Document and share design test results

  • Setup and maintain lab space, equipment, and field test sites

  • Create and maintain design documents for manufacturing, such as assembly and test instructions, cable drawings, schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials

  • Support and share knowledge with other departments such as manufacturing, and external customers as needed

Requirements

  • Electrical/Electronic Technologist diploma, with good grades

    • Please submit transcript with resume

  • 1-2 years work history (may include co-op or relevant summer jobs)

  • Hands-on electronic and mechanical skills, such as soldering, equipment repair, etc.

  • Driver’s license and own vehicle (for working at seismic test sites and getting supplies, within the Ottawa area)

Assets

  • IT and software experience

  • Technical hobbies such as car repair or maker activities

  • Experience with Altium or similar PCB design software and electronic part libraries

  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis;  test automation with Labview or similar software

  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation, process control, and ERP systems
