This is an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified and technical geophysicist to join our rapidly expanding team. Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will play a key technical role in designing passive seismic monitoring solutions to address a wide range of applications including induced seismic monitoring and surface imaging of frac completions. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining and developing geophysical processing techniques required to deliver client based solutions. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work alongside a world class team of instrument and software design engineers who are able to adapt the instrumentation to meet the specific objectives of the monitoring solution.

Strong communication and presentation skills are a must as you will be presenting results and interacting directly with clients as well as presenting research work at technical conferences and workshops. 


Job Duties

Micro seismic geophysical responsibilities will include the following:

  • Work closely with the sales team to define project objectives and data processing techniques

  • Develop survey designs and assist in planning data collection projects

  • Research and prototype data processing workflows for induced and passive seismic monitoring

  • Process and analyse micro seismic data.

  • Present results to clients.

  • Present scientific advances at conferences and industry workshops.

  • Assist in the development of micro seismic processing techniques and technology.

  • Develop hydraulic fracture stimulation monitoring programs.

  • Supervise advanced processing projects .

  • Participate in micro seismic data interpretation, analysis, and integration within the asset team, and set best business practices.

  • Lead technical discussions with customers.

  • Ability to make important decisions quickly and independently. 



  • Minimum Bachelors of Science in Geophysics or Geology. Preferably a post graduate degree

  • Minimum 10 years experience as a professional geoscientist in the oil & gas industry.

  • Customer-facing experience in providing services to oil and gas clients.

  • Experience with borehole data acquisition and processing would be an advantage.

  • Skills and experience in global seismology a plus.

  • Experience in 2D and 3D interpretation, data processing and acquisition, QC&A, seismic inversion of 3D for rock properties, and other technologies such as multiple attenuation, resolution enhancement and depth imaging.

  • Good critical thinking abilities, an inquisitive mind, ability to work with leading edge technology, basic research and multi-tasking skills.

  • Familiarity with micro seismic interpretation and its application to unconventional plays is desirable, as is experience in seismic modeling.

  • Ability to write your own scripts for testing new processing workflows and problem-solving.
