The Technical Writer will be a part of a dynamic team that strives to deliver an exceptional Nanometrics user experience.  You will be responsible for developing promotional and instructional documentation and reference material for the company’s product offerings.  You will be required to write in a concise yet informative, easy to understand style. You must be able to research and understand the functionality and purpose of Nanometrics products and translate this understanding into text that is easily absorbed and understood by any reader.  You will be able to prepare and incorporate graphics, video and web content working with a variety of social, digital and print media. 


Job Duties

  • Prepare documentation and instructional material that is concise and easy to understand

  • Proofread, edit, and write a variety of materials resulting in effective integration between the vehicle, environment and message while maintaining brand voice

  • Revise existing copy to ensure quality and relevance

  • Update, publish and ensure the availability of documentation

  • Collaborate with production and development teams to ensure project completion to deadline

  • Interact with both internal and external customers to determine best presentation

  • Study and analyze the assignment with regard to innovation, product development, potential competition, target group and previously used mediums for the same or similar assignments

  • Build an understanding of the assignment through testing and observing the use of products when possible

  • Study and track the success of launched assignments

  • Organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines

  • Perform checks for questionable details

  • Perform administrative duties as assigned

  • Make recommendations for improvements to process, methods and tools

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional Technical Writing experience

  • Experience in the technology industry preferred

  • Superb writing, content development and editing skills and a thorough understanding of technical writing concepts

  • Ability to create content in the form of reusable modules

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), MadCap Flare, Apache Subversion

  • Familiarity with text editing, page layout and graphic design software (FrameMaker, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator)

  • Proficiency in interviewing techniques

  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects



A college diploma or bachelor's degree in communication techniques, journalism or computers is recommended.
