About Nanometrics

Earthquakes. Volcanoes. Tsunamis. Global Warming. Nuclear Proliferation. Nanometrics is a world leader in the development of seismological instruments and networks used to monitor, investigate and help understand these global events.

An award-winning Canadian exporter, Nanometrics was the first company to produce a fully-integrated satellite system specially designed for studying and monitoring earthquakes.

Customers
Nanometrics has customers on every continent in more than 100 different countries.  Our customers have used our technology to establish and grow research networks across every environment in the world from the frozen tundra of Canada's north to the arid deserts of the Middle East to the jungles of South America.  Many of these include mission-critical national and regional networks that demand the highest possible data quality and availability

History
Nanometrics was founded by Robin Hayman, and has since grown to more than 100 full-time staff with a head office and production facility located in Ottawa in the Kanata North Business Park, the high-tech heart of Canada's capital region.

Research and Development
Nanometrics attributes much of its success to the company's focus on a strong research and development program.  We developed the world's first VSAT network designed specifically for seismic study - the Libra system - and carried out the first VSAT installation in Colombia in 1992.  Since then, Nanometrics has set up more than 900 remote site elements and 30 Libra hubs in more than 20 different countries.

Taurus portable seismograph
The handheld Taurus portable seismograph combines the attributes of a stand-alone recorder with the connectivity required for today's Internet and wireless communications.  Operating on only 680 mW of power, the instrument can directly interface with almost any sensor and record continuous data for more than 600 days.  In addition, the Taurus provides true 24-bits of resolution and a dynamic range of 141dB.

Trillium seismometers
Nanometrics offers a range of unique no-mass-lock broadband seismometers for portable and observatory applications.  All three Trillium models combine to offer low-noise performance and a flat response range from 240 seconds to 50 Hz.

Libra VSAT
Libra is the only satellite network system in the world specifically designed to acquire seismic and environmental data.  Customers enjoy the freedom of network design afforded by Libra's satellite telemetry.  Remote stations can be placed virtually anywhere, even in isolated areas with hostile terrain.  Libra sites do not require access to established infrastructures, telephone lines or power sources.

Manufacturing
Nanometrics runs a modern manufacturing facility in Ottawa, Canada, an operation that includes both in-house assembly, test and quality control with outsourcing of circuit board manufacturing.  Nanometrics prides itself on producing a quality product.  All stages of manufacturing are closely monitored and tracked to ensure that the highest standards are maintained throughout the process.

Nanometrics products are used on every continent and are regularly exposed to severe environmental conditions.  To ensure our products operate reliably, all field equipment is individually tested from -20 to +55 C degrees in a series of computer controlled test chambers.

Nanometrics' commitment to quality has been a vital part of our success.
