Neil Spriggs


Neil is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the company’s activities. Since joining Nanometrics in 1992, he has been instrumental in transforming the company from an instrumentation manufacturer to a seismology monitoring solutions and services provider. Neil has over 25 years of experience in seismology and has lived in the Middle East, UK and USA, working for various geophysics corporations. Neil holds a B.Sc. in marine biology and oceanography from the Marine Science Labs, Menai Bridge, UK and a commercial pilot’s license and flight instructor rating.


Tim Hayman

Vice President, Research & Development

Tim is responsible for the development of our instrumentation, network and software product lines. Tim started at Nanometrics in 1986, progressing to software engineer after graduating from the University of Toronto with a bachelor of applied science (computer engineering) in 1990. From 1995 to 2003, Tim worked at AOL as a software engineer and later as a systems architect. Tim has been Vice President of R&D since 2014.


Ian Talbot

Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Corporate Services

Ian is responsible for our corporate strategy, finance, risk, human resources/facilities and commercial operations. Ian has a chartered accounting designation from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the UK and international experience in corporate banking, trade finance, treasury, performance management, manufacturing and distribution and not-for-profit organizations. Ian has taught business and holds an honors degree in accounting from the University of South Africa and a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from the University of Natal, South Africa.


Bruce Townsend

Vice President, Products

Bruce is responsible for product management at Nanometrics. Prior to this, he was Vice President of Engineering, responsible for the design of our hardware product lines. Before joining us in 2003, Bruce held positions of increasing responsibility at Nortel Networks, most recently Director Research and Development in Nortel's Advanced Technology Investments group. Bruce is the inventor or co-inventor of several patents in the fields of both telecommunication and instrumentation. Bruce began his engineering career with Bell-Northern Research, Nortel's R&D subsidiary, in 1982 after completing his bachelor degree in electrical engineering (with honours) at McGill University.


David Shorey

David Shorey

Vice President, Oil & Gas Division

David leads our Calgary-based division, which focuses on providing turn-key seismic networks and services for induced seismicity monitoring. David has over 30 years of experience in the energy services industry, with a career that includes senior management roles in operations and business development. Prior to joining Nanometrics, he worked for major corporate entities including 25 years with Baker Hughes. David has built and managed sales and business development teams and directed field operations. He holds a bachelor's degree in geology and an MBA as well as post-graduate qualifications in operations, project management, quality control and reliability design.
